A new factory is born! This week, the first load of recycled granules came out of REKS' machine. And we were able to establish that the granules are of very high quality.
REKS is the joint venture between KRAS Recycling, KIVO Kosovo and KIVO Volendam and focuses entirely on circular production.
The REKS process starts at KRAS Recycling. They collect all plastic waste from large companies and distribution centres and then transport it to REKS in Kosovo. At REKS, the waste is sorted, washed and regenerated into recyclate. This used to be done in large volumes in China. Today, some of it still goes to destinations in Asia and much of it now goes to incinerators in Europe. However, by recycling in Kosovo under our own management, we can create closed-loops, guarantee high quality, contribute to employment and development, and are less harmful to the environment.
KIVO Kosovo will use some of the recyclate in the production of various applications, such as rubbish bags and collection bags
With the current development within the plastics industry, there is an increasing need for applications that are processed in a circular way. In the future, REKS also hopes to come up with more 'closed loop' solutions. Think, for example, of shrink films for trays and sixpacks that incorporate recyclate.
